Feature and Follow Friday (#18)

Feature & Follow is a weekly blog hop hosted by Parajunkee and AlisonCanRead. It's set up so bloggers to discover new blogs and gain new followers. Join in! Every week two different blogs are featured. This week's featured blogs are Book Me! and Awesomesauce Book Club. Here's this week's question:

Q: Worst cover? What is the worst cover of a book that you’ve read and loved?

A: I wouldn't say it was bad, but I'm not the biggest fan of the cover for The Immortal Rules by Julie Kagawa and it was one of my favorite books ever! It's a bit boring. At least it's bleak like the world, so I understand that. I just wish the model on the cover was actually Asian! Would it be so bad for Allie Sekemoto to be Asian on the cover?

On a side note, do you think that's a problem in general for book cover images? Should they fairly represent the multi-ethnicity of characters? Or is there a lack of ethnic diversity in Young Adult characters in general?

  1. Hmm the cover is alright, what's stopping my from reading this book is the fact that it's a vampire book. New follower :)

  2. I'm so glad you chose that book. The cover is the single only reason why I haven't read it yet. I just can't get passed that pic. And yes, ya covers (and ya books in general) do tend to be very 'white'. Strange that. Is it because most authors are white? i don't know, but it is an interesting point.

  5. I seen a few people cite this cover, not because it's bad but because it doesn't accurately reflect the content. New follower via GFC. I have two blogs with (different) FFs on them. They're at LKHill and Musings on Fantasia. Happy Friday! :D

  7. I think the cover should be true to the book and ethnicity is a part of that representation. I am a new email follower. I can be found and followed at: bethartfromtheheart.blogspot.com

  9. That cover's not my fave either. I believe the Eon and Eona books also do not have Asian women on the cover, when the MC is Asian, or of Asain descent. I'm not 100% sure on that, but I believe I've heard that before.

    It is frustrating, for sure.

  11. Hi, that's a really good question actually! I've never thought of it, but I'm half-arican (and half-german) abd I think a black (or asian or whatever ethnicity) cover model would confuse me...I mean it'd be great to see more variety but I would immediately assume the book was about an ethnicity conflict of sorts...
I'm an old follower by the way.

  12. Now that you say it, yes, Immortal Rules doesn't have a pretty cover.. It thought the MC was Asian? *Following you back* Love your blog design!

  15. I think that if the main character is Asian, then they should have had an Asian model on the cover. I haven't read this book yet and I can't wait to! I love Julie's The Iron King. I haven't read the rest of the Iron Fey yet.

  16. I haven't really been a fan of this cover either. Its just too boring. And i agree if the main character is Asian then the cover model should be asian as well
